The route today takes you over Loughrigg Fell past Loughrigg Tarn which is covered in water lilies at the right time of year. From here you get wonderful views of the Coniston and Langdale Fells. Follow the fell road down into Elterwater a good place to stop for lunch. Then leave Elterwater via an old road which turns into a rough track bringing you into Little Langdale. Here you get a totally different view of the fells and really feel to be in amongst them. Cross Slaters Bridge and climb steadily to leave Little Langdale behind and enter Tilberthwaite . A wide sweeping valley with a farm at the head of it, follow this valley until you meet up with a pleasant path adjacent to the main road to Coniston which takes you through woodland filled with bluebells in May and brings you to Coniston and Orchard Cottage.
