Great Carrs
Near Little Langdale, Cumbria - England, UK
|
| Great Carrs is a graceful, scythe-like curve of a fell that stands at the head of the Greenburn valley. Its shattered cliffs plunge down dramatically into the valley below, a stark contrast with the pastures of Little Langdale. Great Carrs is best enjoyed as part of a ridge walk from Coniston Old Man, taking in Swirl How on the way — on a sunny day, this ridge walk is a little piece of heaven on earth. The mountain also has a more sombre story to tell: in 1944, a RAF Halifax bomber crashed here and atop the ridge stands a poignant memorial to the crew who lost their lives. |
