Long Meg and Her Daughters
Little Salkeld, Penrith, Cumbria - England, UK

This is one of the largest stone circles in Britain and well worth a visit. Long Meg is the tallest of the stones at just over 3½ metres, and is situated outside the circle. It is a Bronze Age site; probably dating from about 1500 BC Tradition has it that Long Meg and her daughters were witches that were turned to stone by a wizard (or saint) in the 13th Century. Access to the site is available off a minor road that leads north from Langwathby to Little Salkeld.
